OK, so my brakes are squealing. The car also shakes when I hit the brakes, which I think means that my rotors might be warped. Does anyone have any suggestion on if I should just get standard brakes or get something like brembo brakes.

Also...where would you suggest I get my brakes replaced? Something like Midas or should I go to some other place? I'd put them on myself if I could, but I can't so, I need to pay someone to do it.

Let me know what you think.

JM

If you want to save some money and get the better brakes I am sure you and I can get them on with out too many headaches.

I really don't have a clue how to do them though, and I definitely don't have a place to do it. Do you have a suggestion on where I should get the brakes?

OK, so I cracked and went to get an estimate for my brakes. Let me know if this seems normal to you guys.

I've got 65000 miles on my car, and I went to three places for estimates, all three gave me very similar estimates.

They all said that I need new outer tie rods, 4 new rotors and 4 new pads.

The total cost is going to be around 1300. Now, I'm ok with the price, after doing a bunch of research online, the price seems reasonable (with parts and labor).

My real question is, is it normal to need 4 new rotors, and pads, and an outer tie rod at 65000 miles? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks!

JM

That is not a bad price. If you wanted to upgrade the brakes to something more some place will put them on for just the labor charges. The tie rods could need to be replaced at at 65k I have had it before.

I did mine about a year ago.

Had a horrible shimmy under braking which was warped rotors or bad pads. If the pads are not bed in right, they will end up causing the same problem. If you take it to a shop, MAKE SURE THEY BED THE PADS PROPERLY!! If you are not sure if they did it right, you do it, sooner rather than later.

I upgraded my front rotors to slotted stoptech's and went with Hawk pads. If you buy new rotors, dont bother with cross drilled, aside from looking good, you are paying more for less.

Brakes is an easy job, and I am happy to help.

Watch when you go to brake shops and they start talking about "lifetime" brakes. If its the pads, they will eat up your rotors.

Im not surprised that at 65k miles you need rotors and pads, these cars are heavy and honestly, i think the brakes are under powered (thats why i upgraded).
